ZACR Legacy System WHOIS Redaction (Reported)
  • Priority - Medium
  • Affecting Other - .co.za and .org.za domains
  • The ZACR manages all .co.za and .org.za registrars, AmpleHosting being one of them.

The ZACR has announced that local and international data protection laws and/or regulations [EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Protection of Personal Information Act 26 of 2013 (POPI)] is currently in effect to govern the way in which personal information is collected, processed and/or stored by public and private bodies.

This is to protect data identifiers (name, email, address, telephone number etc) of natural and in some cases juristic persons against abusive practices, such as, identify theft; to give effect to constitutional imperatives; and to provide persons with remedies to protect their personal information.

With the standardised practice of ICANN and other ccTLD Registries redacting their Whois data to remain compliant with privacy laws, the ZACR will be implementing the changes on 3 September 2019 to its Legacy Whois service. This means you won't be able to view the registrant information on a domain on a whois lookup on http://co.za/whois.shtml

If a domain name is registered on the AmpleHosting registrar you can view the current registrant information when you select 'Update the WHOIS contact information for your domain' on the domain from within your client area. You can also update the whois information on that area on your client area, please see instructions on https://my.amplehosting.co.za/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=268

If a domain name isn't registered on the AmpleHosting registrar and you require the whois registrant information on the domain you will need to contact the current registrar of that domain name as the information will be redacted on the whois as per the ZACR Privacy Policy which can be viewed on their site on https://www.registry.net.za/downloads/u/ZACR_Privacy_Policy.pdf

TLD domains revised Reseller Master Agreement (Reported)
  • Priority - Medium
  • Affecting Other - Domains
  • You will be receiving an email from do_not_reply@publicdomainregistry.com regarding TLD domains and their revised Reseller Master Agreement.

Our registrar (PublicDomainRegistry.com) the registry of TLD domains such as .com domains are revising their Reseller Master Agreement to reflect a change regarding all domain orders under our Reseller account which are on their (PublicDomainRegistry.com) Registrar credentials.

They are required, per their contracts with various TLD Registries, to have a Domain Registration Agreement with the registrant of each domain name for which they are the registrar on record. The Reseller Master Agreement contains the requirement that we display the Registrar Registrant Agreement when a customer attempts to register or transfer a domain name, and ensure that the customer agrees to the terms before the registration or transfer request is executed.

Their revised Reseller Master Agreement can be viewed on https://publicdomainregistry.com/legal/#dra%3E

You are being made aware of their revised agreement but nothing is needed from you, as long as the whois information on your domains are correct.

This is only for domain name registrations, renewals and transfers that is the only service we use of the PublicDomainRegistry.com.

    For example:

    > It is your responsibility to provide accurate, current, and complete information on the registration forms, including an email address that is different from the domain you are signing up under.

    However where it shows

    > If you need to verify or change your contact information...

This can be done from within your client area, when you select on Modify Contact Details on your domain you will be able to see the current whois information and if needed to be updated please see instructions on https://my.amplehosting.co.za/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=359
