  • Affecting Other - and domains
  • The ZACR manages all and registrars, AmpleHosting being one of them.

The ZACR has announced that local and international data protection laws and/or regulations [EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Protection of Personal Information Act 26 of 2013 (POPI)] is currently in effect to govern the way in which personal information is collected, processed and/or stored by public and private bodies.

This is to protect data identifiers (name, email, address, telephone number etc) of natural and in some cases juristic persons against abusive practices, such as, identify theft; to give effect to constitutional imperatives; and to provide persons with remedies to protect their personal information.

With the standardised practice of ICANN and other ccTLD Registries redacting their Whois data to remain compliant with privacy laws, the ZACR will be implementing the changes on 3 September 2019 to its Legacy Whois service. This means you won't be able to view the registrant information on a domain on a whois lookup on

If a domain name is registered on the AmpleHosting registrar you can view the current registrant information when you select 'Update the WHOIS contact information for your domain' on the domain from within your client area. You can also update the whois information on that area on your client area, please see instructions on

If a domain name isn't registered on the AmpleHosting registrar and you require the whois registrant information on the domain you will need to contact the current registrar of that domain name as the information will be redacted on the whois as per the ZACR Privacy Policy which can be viewed on their site on
